TRAIL SIGNS AND WAYSIDES

The Ground Floor
Olympic Nation Park Moments in Time Trail
Cory Ench,  1998 c

The forest floor is alive beneath your feet. Millipedes, fungi and millions of microorganisms are slowly recycling forest litter. Through their actions, tons of organic matter and nutrients once again become available to growing plants. Underground, many trees are connected -- tiny fungal strands join tree root hairs to increase water and nutrient uptake.

This piece received a 3rd place award, 2d commercial art category in the 1997 Beyond the Canvas Art Contest, sponsored by Meta Creations Software Company.
